JOB OVERVIEW  - Montana Correctional Enterprises (MCE) provides employment and training opportunities for eligible institutional inmates, consistent with the Mission of the Department of Corrections, to hold inmates accountable through work, skill development and restitution, while maintaining public safety and trust.

The MCE Agricultural operations include beef cattle, dairy cattle, crops, feedlot, land management, dairy milking parlor, dairy processing, wild land fire crew and other associated programs. Responsibilities include:

Coordinating program activities or contracted services for a program. Performing quality assurance reviews for compliance with program guidelines or related regulations. Entering, tracking, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting program data. Interacting, providing guidance, and communicating with community, clients, contractors, or other state agencies to facilitate program activities. May be assisting with requests for proposals or grant funding applications. May be reporting complaints, issues, and suspected violations of program requirements. Acting as a subject matter expert responding to elevated complaints or issues from the general public, clients, local, state, or federal agencies. Analyzing documents, data, and reports for program noncompliance and initiates corrective actions. Determining adequacy of services and recommend identified improvements to a program manager or other executive. Assisting program managers, executives, or others by researching impacts to the program resulting from changes or proposed changes to policy, rule, or legislation. May be attending federal reviews, inspecting, visiting, or investigating contractor work or sites to determine level of service delivery and ensure compliance. Implementing the managerial and operational plan for the MCE crops enterprise Supervising and training inmate workers in all aspects of the crops enterprise and assisting other MCE agriculture employees in their efforts to ensure the success of the MCE agriculture program and the overall MCE division. Acting as Dairy Relief, with changes as needed for coverage in all areas of the MCE agriculture program.

QUALIFICATIONS –  The above knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in an agricultural field or four years of agricultural experience.Three years of relevant ranching experience, including a minimum of one in a supervisory capacity.Experience must include working an agriculture operation with responsibilities in crop production, farming equipment operation and maintenance. Training and supervising hard to train workers, students or inmates will be given preference.
