We are seeking a Certification Worker (Social Service Specialist 1) to join our Grants Pass Child Welfare team.

What you need to qualify 

  • A bachelor’s degree in human services or a field related to human service, OR

  • A bachelor’s degree unrelated to Human Services and either:

    • One year of Human Services related experience; OR

    • Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency; OR

  • An associate degree and either:

    • Two years of Human Services related experience; OR

    • One year of Human Services related experience and related training, coursework, or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.

 This position requires a valid driver license and acceptable driving record.

Essential attributes 

We are looking for candidates with:  

  • Demonstrated knowledge about crisis intervention, conflict resolution, behavior management, and the impact of trauma.

  • Knowledge or understanding of child development and the impact of trauma.

  • Experience defining and explaining complex rules and guidelines in a variety of settings.

  • Experience effectively engage with families under challenging and time-sensitive circumstances.

  • Experience communicating complex technical and legal information in an understandable language to people of diverse education, language, cultural backgrounds, and internal and external partners. 

  • Experience navigating technology and different computer systems.

Your duties at a glance 

As an employee working within the , you will have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Oregon’s most vulnerable children and families. Your dedication will help us achieve the Child Welfare that will support children and young adults to be safer, healthier, experience less trauma and achieve a greater well-being.  

As a Certification Worker, you will: 

  • Seek out relative caregivers, resource parents, and adoptive parents that represent all ethnic and cultural groups within the community.

  • Develop targeted recruitment strategies for resource and adoptive parents and help people explore opportunities within the Child Welfare program.

  • Provide orientation and training to applicant families.

  • Assess families’ abilities to provide safe environments and meet the permanency needs of children through interviews, observations, home visits, etc.

  • Write comprehensive family studies on resource homes.

  • Assist caseworkers in placement matching of children, resource families, and adoptive families.

  • Prepare families for placement and connect them with caregiving support groups and other resources.

  • Provide ongoing feedback, assistance, and support to resource and adoptive families.

  • Maintain case files and other records.

Working conditions 

  • You will work in the office and in the field, including client homes.

  • You will be required to be on-call on an ongoing basis.

  • You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma, exhibit challenges in controlling their anger, or other unexpected emotions impacted by drug use, cognitive impairments, or other factors.

  • This position requires working a flexible schedule with a normal workday of 8 hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., however working hours may be adjusted to provide planned services.
