The position is responsible for directing the development and implementation of materials research; analytical laboratory testing; and construction methods, procedures, and technologies.Oversees special research and development projects to ensure contemporary practices and technology are utilized; develops plans for the research, analysis, and implementation of innovative technologies to increase the quality, efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness of major statewide construction projects and Department operations; and develops theoretical models, applications, and design standards for Montana’s unique and evolving transportation environment. Provides technical consultation and department representation for national materials standards and specification development initiatives (e.g., AASHTO Technical Studies, WASHTO, and WAQTC) to ensure that the State’s interests are represented. This position reports to the Materials Bureau Chief.
