Summary

Bryce Canyon is Full-time

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately Colorado NM (February-December) West Entrance Yellowstone (Mid-December-Mid March and Mid April- October) and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties

Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the National Park Service (NPS), answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Performs assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Operate an electronic cash register, computer or Point of Sale (POS) system to conduct financial transactions. Perform opening and closing functions. Issue entrance receipts, tour tickets, permits, etc. Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected.

Area Information:
Bryce Canyon National Park: Bryce Canyon is located in rural Southern Utah in Garfield County. It sits atop the Paunsaugunt Plateau where elevations are typically above 8,000 feet. The park is in a remote location with nearest small towns 20-30 minutes, including Tropic, UT and Panguitch, UT. These communities provide basic services with smaller grocery stores, post office, gas station, schools and shops. There is a hospital in Panguitch.
To get to major communities it is necessary to travel to Cedar City (west 80 miles), Richfield (north 90 miles), Kanab (south 90 miles) and St George (southwest 126 miles) Housing maybe available

Colorado National Monument: Colorado National Monument, located on the Western Slope of Colorado, preserves one of the grandest landscapes of the American West. Historic Rim Rock Drive offers 23 miles of breathtaking panoramic views and 19 overlooks in the monument. More than 43 miles of trails lead across mesa tops and to spectacular overlooks and back country canyons. The monument has more than 700,000 visitors annually and it provides many recreational uses for them such as bicycling along Rim Rock Drive, camping in the 80-site campground, hiking, rock climbing, and picnicking. The monument is in close proximity to the towns of Fruita (7 miles) and Grand Junction (17 miles). The surrounding area has a population of approximately 150,000 people. Most community and commercial facilities are located in Grand Junction, including Mesa State College, several hospitals, shopping facilities and churches. The climate is dry, high desert with summer daytime temperatures ranging from 85 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit and winter daytime temperatures ranging from 30 to 45 degrees. Winter overnight lows occasionally drop below zero.

Yellowstone National Park: T his position is located at the West Entrance in West Yellowstone, Montana located 49 miles south of park headquarters. West Yellowstone is 90 miles from Bozeman, Montana and Rexburg, Idaho. Elevation at West Yellowstone is 6,667 feet. Temperatures vary from an average of less than 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer to sub-zero in the winter. Temperatures of -20-degree Fahrenheit are not uncommon in winter. Most park roads are not plowed after the first weekend in November, and interior locations are only reachable by over snow vehicle (snowmobile or snow coach) November through April. The West Yellowstone area provides many community services (medical services, grocery shopping, banking, entertainment, UPS, etc.) Schools are available in West Yellowstone. Housing maybe available.

U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Complete the initial online assessment and USAHire Assessment, if required. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/19/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

QUALITY RANKING FACTOR: This position performs collection of fees at various stations throughout a park and fee collection or money handling is required. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain financial/accounting data (such as fee and stock data); performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties; and using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial records . You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of 4 years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have 6 months of specialized experience at the GS-04 level (50% of the required experience) and I have 90 semester credits of appropriate undergraduate education (50% of the education). Note: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. You must include transcripts.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
