Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Duties

Nurse Educator - Staff Development Statement of Duties The Staff Development Nurse Educator is responsible and accountable for the development and delivery of Patient Care Service staff development and education programs for Medical-Surgical wards, Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department staff, ambulatory surgery, and GI laboratory staff. The Educator is responsible for the orientation of new employees, evaluation of their progress in the orientation phase, and for developing and implementing a learning plan for improving identified deficiencies. The Educator will be closely involved with Staff Development orientation, competency validations, and all aspects of the Simulation program. The Educator will serve as a resource to the staff and to the facility and will serve as a mentor or preceptor to nurses, student nurses, and other staff. Functioning as an expert in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities. Using professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities. The Educator will be responsible for facilitating educational activities related to VA computer software, . Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology (VistA), and Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA), and will direct / assist in BLS and ACLS classes. The Educator will work closely with Information Technology Service during training and implementation of changes in nursing related computer applications. Consistently protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, statues and policy, and VHA policy. The position requires flexibility in time schedules and assignment, as this is a 24/7 hospital. The selectee will demonstrate performance and leadership to improve the care for Veterans by leading learners
