Deputy Chief Medical Officer

Job Summary:
The Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) provides medical leadership support to the AHCCCS Chief Medical Officer and directly oversees the AHCCCS pharmacy and dental programs.
Responsibilities include supporting AHCCCS major clinical initiatives, providing leadership role and participating in AHCCCS committees/workgroups where medical expertise is warranted, supports other CMO direct reports and functions, supports the development and maintenance of AHCCCS medical policies in the AHCCCS Medical Policy Manual (AMPM), and consults with other AHCCCS divisions in need of medical expertise.
This position supervises and manages the Dental Director, Pharmacy Director, and OOD Medical Director.

Job Duties: Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Oversees AHCCCS pharmacy and dental programs.
• Consults with other AHCCCS divisions in need of medical expertise (e.g., Division of Member and Provider Services, Office of Inspector General, Legal Services, Federal Relations).
• Participates in AHCCCS committees and work groups requiring medical expertise.
• Supports the development and maintenance of AHCCCS medical policies in the AHCCCS Medical Policy Manual (AMPM).

Minimum:
• Arizona Drivers License
• Licensed physician in good standing in the State of Arizona. Board Certified in Family Practice, Pediatrics, Ob/GYN, Internal Medicine, General Surgery or other Medical Specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
Preferred:
• Advanced degree in public health, business administration, or certification in QM/UM or peer review. Experience in medical management as the Medical Director for health plan or health plan system. Experience with one or more of the accreditation organizations.
• Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees.
• Successfully pass fingerprint background check, prior employment verifications and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
• Travel may be required for State business. Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code .) AND have an acceptable driving record for the last 39 months including no DUI, suspension or revocations and less than 8 points on your license. If an Out of State Driver License was held within the last 39 months, a copy of your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is required prior to driving for State Business. Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
