Wood Specialist Engineering & Consulting Group is currently recruiting for a Graduate GIS Specialist to to join our Survey, GIS and Data Management Team in our Houston, Texas offices.

The successful candidate shall provide GIS and Data science support to a wide range of subsea engineering projects in the form of data management, map production, spatial analysis, web-GIS management, data analysis and other ad-hoc data related tasks.

This is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively within a team of engineers, designers, project managers, and other survey & GIS specialists and to be a part of a growing team that supports a variety of clients, projects, and internal business partners across both the traditional offshore oil and gas sector.

This is a varied and exciting role where the successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the use of GIS and other digital technologies. In addition to supporting the Houston office, there will be opportunities to contribute to the survey, GIS and geoscience global technical disciplines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage project GIS databases including data loading, quality assurance and metadata.
  • Produce maps, charts, reports and other data deliverables for internal and external issue.
  • Develop and maintain map services and other content for web-based GIS portals.
  • Respond to project queries daily.
  • Contribute to GIS data specifications and other technical material.
  • Perform data and error analysis to improve models; clean and validate data for uniformity and accuracy
  • Proactively fetch information from various sources and analyze it for better understanding about how the business performs and build AI tools that automate certain processes within the company.
  • Gathering and analyzing complex data from various sources to extract meaningful insights.
  • Designing and maintaining databases for efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science and related technologies to continuously improve data analysis methods.
  • Identify and integrate new datasets, and work closely with the team in the development of data products


QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Data Science, Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Geoscience, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
  • Experience with the ESRI product suite.
  • A keen interest in engineering, technology and data.
  • Experience using geodatabases.
  • A good understanding of coordinate systems and transformations.
  • Strong team and inter-personal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and able to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Capable of learning new software, processes and procedures as projects require.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Teams.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
