Job Description

If you are passionate about using your talents to positively impact Chesapeake, the Information Technology Department is looking to add a Telecom/GIS Specialist to our team of professionals. This position will support the Chesapeake Connects city-wide broadband implementation and operation.

We are seeking a Telecom/GIS Specialist with exposure to ArcGIS Pro and a basic understanding of telecommunication assets including an understanding of Outside Plant (OSP) mapping. The GIS Specialist will use ESRI ArcGIS 10.8.x or ArcGIS Pro and a Fiber Management System to digitize, modify, and attribute telecommunications system facilities from a variety of data sources.

Duties & Responsibilities

Digitize and attribute telecommunications system facilities. Review and interpret utility as-built drawings for accuracy and to identify current routes and splice points.Keep data current using as-built drawings and field operation feedback.Quality control spatial locations and facilities attributes adhering to defined requirements.Create processes and tools for mobile use of GIS for data collection and consumption.Analyze GIS data sets and build ad-hoc reporting for leadership. Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of four years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties. Preferred Qualifications Desired Skills

ArcGIS 10.6.x or higher and/or ArcGIS Pro training/education preferred. Ability to review and compare various information sources.Knowledge of telecommunications facility data preferred.Experience in mapping OSP construction, fiber construction, or utility (gas, water, electricity) construction.Familiar with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel).Good communication (verbal and written) and listening skills.Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.Self-motivation, adaptability, and ability to meet deadlines.
