POSITION:  Language Apprentice, Nselxcin Dialect (2) positions

SALARY:  $20.00 p/h

REPORTS TO: NselxcinLanguage Instructor Sr.

LOCATION: Omak, WA 

Basic Functions:  The Language Apprentice will work under the direction of the Language Instructor and Fluent Elder Speaker(s) to learn nselxcin at a proficiency level to successfully obtain teaching certification. Apprentice will be engaged in daily language lessons and eventually transitioned to assist in language instruction in some capacity either in early childhood, K-12, or post-secondary level.

Qualifications

Education and Training: 

Apprentice I requires a High School Diploma Apprentice II requires a High School Diploma and 3-6 Months experience Apprentice III requires a High School Diploma and 6-12 Months experience Apprentice IV requires a High School Diploma and 12-18 Months experience Apprentice V requires a High School Diploma and 18-24 Months experience Requires a valid driver's license and must be eligible for the Tribes' vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Requires knowledge and history of the cultures of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation (CCT). Requires good communication skills and experience following verbal and/or written instructions. Requires the ability to work well with fluent elder speakers.  Requires the ability to participate in traditional and field activities such as root digging, berry gathering. pit cooked, and other cultural activities.  Requires the ability to take initiative to learn in groups and independently .  Requires the ability to work with tribal elders in a culturally appropriate manner.  Requires the ability to collaborate with various departments, partners, or individual members of the CCT.  Requires the ability to independently perform all of the duties of the position.  Requires the ability to use computer or be willingly to learn how to use computers.  Requires the ability to use video, digital and audio recording equipment or willing to learn.  Require the ability to functions indoors, in an office environment, engaged in a work of primarily a sedentary nature.  Requires ambulatory ability to sit for extended periods of time, to utilize microcomputers and peripherals equipment, accomplish other desktop work, and to move various and community locations.  Requires the ability to use near vision to read printed materials.  Requires auditory ability to to carry on conversations in person and over the phone.  Requires the ability to retrieve work materials from overhead, waist, and ground level files.  Requires manual and finger dexterity to write, use a pointing device and keyboard at an acceptable rate that meets department deadlines and accuracy standards, operate microcomputer, and use other standardized office equipment, almost constantly requiring repetitive motions.  Requires rigorous physical activity such as hiking, lifting/moving heavy objects and digging during cultural outings/activities.
