Note: The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy.

There are openings for part-time/year-round and seasonal positions. 

Employees in part-time/year-round positions may work no more than 29 hours per week.

Seasonal employment is expected to begin on April 15 and last through October 15, 2024.

Approved Recruitment Incentives:

$100 - Hiring / Return Incentive for Lifeguards after they complete training, orientation, and their first month of active status; or are returning from a prior season and complete their first month of active status.

$200 - Incentive for each time period below for Lifeguards who work the minimum number hours listed during that time period:

50 hours from April 15- May 27

100 hours from May 28-June 30

100 hours from July I-July 31

50 hours from August I-Labor Day September 2

$50 - Referral Incentive for current City of Oklahoma City Parks non­management employees who provide lifeguard applicants that complete training, orientation, and complete their first month of active status must be listed by applicant in hiring paperwork.

$100 - End of season bonus for Lifeguards that work through September 3.

$0.50 - Hourly incentive for Lifeguards that work during a facility rental that occurs outside of public operating hours.

Note: All approved incentives are contingent upon employee being in good standing without performance issues.

This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is located in the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is responsible for functioning as a lead worker at a municipal swimming facility. Typical duties include: performing duties and responsibilities consistent with those of a lifeguard; preparing work schedules and assigning lifeguards to duty stations, and giving instruction in pool operating procedures, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters; and overseeing lifeguards in the enforcement of safety rules and regulations. The necessary skills, knowledge, and ability and/or licenses and certifications to perform departmental specific tasks must be acquired prior to assuming the duties of the position. Applicants for this position must have completed Lifeguard Certification as issued by the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department, Basic First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module prior to hire. Ability to travel is required. This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification.*

Note: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time of application.

Note: Applicants for the position of Lifeguard must complete Lifeguard Certification as issued by the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department, Basic First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module within the first month of assuming the position. 

Note: This position will occasionally accept cash and make change; operate a concession stand or gift shop; and collect fees, admission tickets, and passes from patrons at various events or City facilities. 

Pay Method: City employees are required to receive pay electronically, either via direct deposit or pay card.

Background Investigation, Drug Testing, Physical Examination: Upon a conditional offer of employment/acceptance of position, the City of Oklahoma City will conduct a criminal history background check for external applicants. Applicants will be provided contact information for any third-party reporting agencies used to collect background information in connection with conditional offers of employment.

If the position accepted includes a driver license (commercial or non-commercial) Job Requirement, the City of Oklahoma City will obtain a Motor Vehicle Report for internal and external applicants. 

If the position accepted is safety sensitive and/or a driving position, internal and external applicants will be provided a copy of the City of Oklahoma City's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy prior to being directed for a drug test.
