Summary

The ideal candidate is a person who possess skills in configuring/maintaining cloud-based LAN/WAN network systems and is available for rapid deployment to dynamically manage networks in multiple locations. The candidate should be able to configure Cisco devices, Cradlepoint's, and like devices. This candidate needs to be able to repair/maintain assets remotely by reviewing hardware and programming to fulfill mission requirements and security objectives.

Duties

What will I do in this position if hired?

This position is within FEMA's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Operations and Services, Data Network Services Division, Tier 3 Deployment Branch. The mission of this team is to respond rapidly to disaster situations in an IT infrastructure capacity and extend the FESP FEMA Enterprise Service Provider into field operations. In this position, you will assist in developing, installing, and maintaining IT solutions within the framework of agency polices, priorities and mission requirements. Additional duties include regular travel and deployment to other government facilities and construction sites to complete site surveys for suitable FEMA facility installations.

Typical assignments include:

Respond rapidly to disaster situations in an IT infrastructure capacity and extend the FESP FEMA Enterprise Service Provider into field operations. Developing, installing, and maintaining IT LAN/WAN, data and voice, solutions within the framework of agency polices, priorities and mission requirements. Deployment to forward field facilities and construction sites to complete site surveys for suitable FEMA facility installations of LAN/WAN, wireless and wired data, and voice networks. Configuring and maintaining LAN/WAN in a cloud-based network management system. Evaluating and testing IT assets and performing maintenance and refurbishment of equipment while in steady state and while deployed to disaster operations. Refurbishing and installing network infrastructure IT equipment in various environments.

All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

This announcement is for a position as a CORE (Cadre of On-Call Response/Recovery Employee). CORE employees are full-time employees hired to directly support the response and recovery efforts related to disasters. Appointments to CORE positions are typically between two years and four years in duration and may be renewed based upon workload needs and funding availability. Employees are hired under the and are excluded from the provisions of title 5, United States Code, governing jobs in the competitive service. They can be hired under a streamlined process instead of a competitive process. After three years of continuous service, Stafford Act employees may be granted competitive eligibility to apply for permanent full-time positions at FEMA.
