Introduction

The Loudoun County Office of Mapping and Geographic Information is responsible for maintaining the core components of the county's Geographic Information System (GIS), the computerized mapping system. The office provides internal data, mapping, and analytical services to county agencies and provides services to the public through web-based mapping and at the office's Public Information Counter. 

Job Summary

The Loudoun County Office of Mapping and Geographic Information is seeking a talented and motivated individual for the position of GIS Specialist. Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, this position supports the County GIS needs through the evaluation, development, analysis, and maintenance of spatial data, as well as the creation of high quality, informative maps, both on paper and in the online environment.

The successful candidate will be customer service focused with good communications skills, both written and verbal; have the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; be able to independently interpret project needs from customers and use that information to produce custom maps or geographic analyses in the Esri geographic software environment. 

Salary Commensurate with Experience 



Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Geography, Cartography, Computer Science, or a related field with one (1) year of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
Experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro GIS software, experience in analyzing geographic data, experience with Esri ArcGIS Online (Story Maps, Experience Builder, and/or Dashboards), knowledge of cartographic design and the development of custom maps, experience in developing and maintaining spatial data and associated metadata, experience in teaching others how to create maps or use GIS software, local government experience such as in land development, transportation, community development or public safety, and field data collection experience using a GPS or smartphone.
