Conditions of Employment

SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service or exempt. To register or verify your registration, go to the website.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS: Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check. Failure to satisfy the background check will result in cancellation of offer of employment or may be grounds for termination.

DRUG TESTING: Positions require a mandatory pre-employment drug test. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received. The drug test will be provided at Government direction and expense. Once hired, employees are also subject to random drug testing during employment. This is in accordance with Executive Order 12564 and under the Department's Drug Free Workplace Program.

To work at the NIFC Ramp's Services Aircraft Operating Area (AOA), you are required to meet Transportation Security Administration and Boise airport's security and background checks. You must be able to obtain a Boise Airport General Aviation badge to have access to the NIFC AOA. If an employee cannot meet the requirements imposed by the agency, the employee will be removed from federal service.

FWPT and RAMP: Must possess current Red Card qualifications for Fixed Wing Parking Tender (FWPT) or Ramp Manger (RAMP) within 90 days of appointment.

Positions may require a valid state driver's license.

You must be 18 years of age or older at the time of appointment.

You must pass a physical exam prior to appointment.

Qualifications

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your resume.

Screen-out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. This must be verifiable on your application.

To qualify for a WG-06, you must have experience working with aircraft performing duties such as aircraft start-up, taxiing, and/or parking.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates.

You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Physical Effort: Attendant's duties require an active individual. Work involves standing on asphalt/concrete surfaces for prolonged periods. Must be able to lift and carry cumbersome and unusually shaped items, sometime exceeding 100 pounds. The incumbent works on maintenance stands capable of extending 10-15 feet in height, remaining in bent, squatted and prone positions in close quarters for extended periods of time. Attendant will be climbing about, in and on fuselages, wings, cargo compartments, and landing gear wheel wells of various types and sizes of aircraft. During equipment and vehicle maintenance, incumbent works atop, in tight quarters, about, and beneath units that may be on maintenance jack stands. Incumbent sometimes works where hard-to-reach parts and equipment are beneath, behind, up, over or hidden by other components not having direct access or visibility.

Working Conditions: Incumbent works outside around loud running reciprocating and jet aircraft engines in all weather conditions. Weather may heighten the hazardous exposure to injury: falls, electrical shock, burns, cuts, bruises, strains, broken bones, respiratory, skin and eye irritations. Other injury hazards are high pressure or volatile fluids (hydraulics over 3000 psi pressure), falling from aircraft, vehicles, work stands, ladders, oily and other slippery surfaces, falling and shifting objects and working beneath heavy mobile equipment on jack stands during periodic and required maintenance periods. Incumbent is exposed to a critical and hazardous environment where mental orientation and physical awareness may be affected by extended hours and duty days during wild land fire suppression efforts, high intensity high frequency sound waves, chemical burns, toxic and explosive fumes, rotating propeller blades, jet engine air intake and exhausts.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
