JOB SUMMARY:

Plans and assists with custody and security of youth in DJJ custody. May develop and implement security policies and procedures. Directs subordinate supervisors and staff. 

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:

May develop and implement security policies and procedures Directs subordinate supervisors and staff Supervises assigned correctional staff and ensures conformity with department and institutional security policies and procedures Oversees and directs correctional staff in the transfer of offenders from one institution to another Manages human resources and directs administrative activities for corrections staff
Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges corrections employees Implements applicable institutional emergency plans and procedures.
Establishes a plan for and oversees correctional staff in the control of contraband
Coordinates offenders’ activities and headcount procedures Assures that law and order are maintained and that the laws, policies, rules and regulations are enforced to prevent crimes and to protect lives and property

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

High school diploma or GED AND P.O.S.T. certification AND Two years of experience at a level equivalent to a supervisory law enforcement position OR One year of experience required at the lower level Correctional Lieutenant (PSP065) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications possess the following:

Current and valid certification as a Juvenile Correctional Officer by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council Two or more years of experience working in a Juvenile Detention Center Experience managing subordinate staff

Military Salary Increase Incentive Amount:

2.5% for one year of active duty service 5% for two years of active duty service 7.5% for three years of active duty service 10% for 4+ years of active duty service
