GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 Criminal Intelligence Analyst I (B21 - $5,.40 monthly salary):Perform complex (journey-level) criminal intelligence research and analysis work. Maintain continual situational awareness, paying particular attention to issues that affect the State of Texas and the responsibilities of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Work involves analyzing complex data, writing reports, and identifying patterns of criminal activity. May train, coach and mentor others. Work under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Criminal Intelligence Analyst II (B23 - $6,.03 monthly salary):Perform highly complex (senior-level) criminal intelligence research and analysis work. Maintain continual situational awareness, paying particular attention to issues that affect the State of Texas and the responsibilities of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Work involves conducting, coordinating, and/or overseeing complex data analysis, report writing, and identification of patterns of criminal activity. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Work under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Criminal Intelligence Analyst III (B25 - $7,.57 monthly salary):Perform highly advanced (senior-level) criminal intelligence research and analysis work. Maintain continual situational awareness, paying particular attention to issues that affect the State of Texas and the responsibilities of Texas Department of Public Safety. Work involves conducting, coordinating, and/or overseeing complex data analysis, report writing, and identification of patterns of criminal activity. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Work under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position. Applicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.” ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Conduct complex research and strategic crime analysis to identify and evaluate patterns and trends, using probability studies and complex statistical analyses, develops and test hypotheses, develops victim and suspect profiles, and forecasts criminal activity.2. Collect and compile criminal intelligence information and statistics to generate intelligence data for support in investigations through personal contact; reading; and documentation of various intelligence, analytical, and administrative information. 3. Research, analyze, evaluate, and correlate criminal intelligence information to determine source reliability, accuracy, and integrity; develop investigative leads and links; and distinguish patterns and trends. 4. Process intelligence information using a variety of analytical tools and integrate data to produce intelligence studies, special reports, correspondence, briefings, informational papers, threat assessments, threat warnings, link analysis, and forecasts. 5. Organize and maintain sensitive, non-sensitive, and open source case data and files into a logical, concise, and understandable order for retrieval if further analysis is needed.6. Prepare and present detailed graphical presentations (intelligence reports, charts, graphs), including presentations to outside organizations requesting information on threats to the state.7. In the event of a major threat to the state, Criminal Intelligence Analysts will work on a Strike Team.8. May train, coach and mentor others.9. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.10. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:Education – Graduation from a standard senior high-school or equivalent is required. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, International Affairs, Security & Intelligence Studies, Political Science, Regional Studies, Geospatial/Geography, Topical studies (such as counter-proliferation, counterterrorism, international crime, etc.), Journalism, Finance/International Economics, Anthropology, History, Statistics or a related field is preferred.Experience - Minimum of four years’ experience performing criminal intel analysis work in intelligence/military/government environment; professional level work involving extensive research, analysis, or data compilation and correlation on a full-time basis is required. Knowledge of intelligence gathering methodologies; intelligence and crime analysis processes; law enforcement operations; and analytical functions as it is related to criminal law enforcement is required. Preparing analytical reports is required.Substitution Note: Preferred education of the type described may be substituted for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis. Applicants must have a minimum of four years of education or four years of experience, or a combination of the two.Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail – Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems. Able to perform tasks with care and thoroughness, compare observations or finished work to what is expected to find inconsistencies, employ metrics in order to trend and benchmark, and employ quality assurance standards and practices.Licensure and/or Certification – Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence. Must secure and maintain a secret level security clearance within one year of employment.Regulatory Knowledge – Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.Team Lead – Ability to ensure clarity of goals, purpose, and criteria for success, effectively coach and mentor assigned staff, contribute resourceful ideas to improve programs and processes, and build constructive working relationships.Interpersonal Skills – Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers. Able to professionally provide and accept constructive criticism and feedback.Organizational and Prioritization Skills – Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.Presentation/Communication Skills – Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals. Must be able to write clear, concise and effective reports, accurately communicating complex information and analytic judgments that are relevant and useful to the consumer.Research and Comprehension – Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information, and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) – Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems.
