Job Overview:

This position resides in the of . The Cannabis Lab Specialist performs a variety of duties assigned by management. This position assists in overseeing projects related to quality assurance and laboratory system improvement functions with current and potential marijuana laboratories in Montana within the Marijuana Laboratory Program. Duties include assisting with marijuana laboratory audits and compliance issues, assisting with the development and implementation of quality improvement projects internally and with external partners, researching best practices for marijuana testing and compliance, researching other state marijuana programs rules, analyzing and interpreting marijuana data, identifying data trends and compliance issues, and enforcement of ARMs.

Advanced knowledge and experience in analytical chemistry testing processes. Ideal candidate would have additional knowledge of serology, PCR, and Microbiology. Knowledge and experience in quality management systems, quality control, quality improvement, and good laboratory practices. Computers and database management systems (i.e. GenTax, METRC) Quality assurance methods Administrative rule processes and guidelines Compliance standards and regulations Records management Statutes, Administrative Rules, and policies for marijuana testing laboratories Complex quality assurance testing laboratories inspection concerns with an emphasis on the health and safety of consumers Collection of evidence procedure Compliance standards and regulations Inspection requirements Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Advanced knowledge and experience in analytical chemistry testing processes. Analytical and critical thinking skills. Effective time management and organization skills. Acute attention to detail and observation skills. Ability to use reason and logic to identify and solve problems. Ability to facilitate collaboration and cooperation with others. Working Conditions

Work hours may exceed 40 hours from time to time, including weekends. Office environment. Lifting is infrequent, less than 15 pounds. Some travel may be required, must have a valid driver’s license.

REMOTE/TELEWORK: This position may be eligible to work from an approved worksite within the state of Montana. This position would be required to report to a Department of Revenue office assigned by the supervisor. Employees must meet and sustain Department of Revenue telework eligibility requirements and supervisor's approval to participate in the DOR Telework Program.

Training Assignment: This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.
