The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) recognizes its Engineers are a highly valued resource and play a critical role in ensuring the State’s infrastructure is safe, reliable, dependable, and sustainable. For that reason we are now providing monetary recruitment incentives to new DelDOT Engineers in accordance to our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.
The program provides recruitment incentives as follows:
Sign-On Bonus – Incentives are based on the position classification:
$4,000 Engineer I $5,000 Engineer II $6,000 Engineer III $7,000 Engineer IVIncentives are paid three months from the initial date of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DelDOT in the Engineer I-IV series. Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State of Delaware
NOTE: You will receive more information during the hiring process. This program is administered by the Department of Transportation’s Human Resources – Employment Services section. The program may be terminated by the Department of Transportation at any time with or without notice.
Summary Statement
Provides technical assistance to departmental staff both within and outside of the section for the design of transportation improvements. Mentors, develops, and provides training to staff to enhance their design skills. Serves on committees and participates in modification of standards, specifications, and manuals. Reviews and provides comments on all Project Development South related projects. Participates in regional and national activities. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer V (Department of Transportation Only)
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Possession of a valid Delaware Professional Engineering License OR Possession of a valid Professional Engineering license issued by a proper authority of a state, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or a province or territory of Canada.At least five years experience in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below. •Chemical Engineering •Electrical Engineering •Civil Engineering •Construction Engineering •Environmental Engineering •Industrial Engineering •Mechanical Engineering •Agricultural Engineering
Three years experience in engineering project management which includes planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the status of engineering projects.
One year experience Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
