JobOverview:

Thisposition assistswithregional management and implementationoflandsenrolled inFWPhunting access programs, includingcoordinating hunter useofFWPmanaged privatelands.Thispositionalsoassistsprivate landownersanddepartmentenforcement andwildlifepersonnel withrecreational usecomplianceissues.This positionfunctions asamember of the regional accessteam, which includes theRegional AccessManager, Access Resource Specialist and other Access Technicians.

SpecialInformation:

Must beabletoeffectively communicateverbally and inwriting with diverse groups ofpeople and personalities.Basicknowledge and understanding ofMontana's hunting heritage, huntingprinciples, rulesand regulations isadvantageous. Must have aptitude forbuilding and maintaining interpersonal relationships, preferably withprivatelandowners, thepublicandpartner agencies.Applicantmustbecapableoflearningand explaining basic department principles and concepts inasimple, clearandeffective way tomembers of the public. Musthaveability towork independently withlittletonodailysupervision inremote locations. Ability tolearn basicsituationalawareness, perceive personal safety andsafety of others isexpected. Apositive outlook and demeanor is required.

PhysicalandEnvironmentalDemands:

Requires frequent travel and working conditions inafield setting, typically inremote areas. Working conditionswillinclude useofmotorized vehicles, workingoutdoors infalland winterseasonsinunpredictable and inclement weather.The incumbent should be in good overall physical condition and possess sufficient outdoor skillsto withstand therigors and demands ofoutdoor work andto carry out dutieseffectively and safely.This isafield position that involves extensive amounts ofdriving inextreme weather conditions. Must beable to work both independently and aspart ofa team ina remote location. Must have excellent communication skillsandtheability toworkclosely withthepublic.Must beabletoeffectively communicate inwriting and verbally witha wide variety ofpeople and personalities including ranchers,farmers, biologists, game wardens and hunters.Must have public speaking abilities and theskills necessary to efficiently communicate and/or manage large groupsof people. Must beable to work with aminimum amount of supervision inremotesettings. Must beable tonavigate thelandscape and administrativeboundariesby using a GPS and maps depicting private and public landownership.Must beable tointerpret administrativetravel routes, public recreation rules, and hunting regulations. Should understand upland game bird and big game hunting regulations and/or wildlife management. Knowledge ofCentral Montana and understanding of agricultural practices isadvantageous. Must haveadriver's license and be able tooperate a4x4truck both standard andautomatic transmissions inalltypesofweather and roadconditions. Additional equipment duties may involve use offencing tools, basic construction tools, computer and GPS.

JobDuration&WorkSchedule:

Thisisaseasonal position. Approximate employment datesforAccessTechnician fieldpositionsinRegion 5 vary andtypically begin inearly August and can runthrough February. Weekend and holiday work will be required. Workschedule for thisposition is typically weekends Friday through Monday with 8to I0-hour work days.

Job Location:

Thisposition will provide FWP Block Managementimplementationsuppo1i in Region 5primarily inthe Roundup and Melstone areas with occasional region wide support ifneeded.FWP Region 5islocated in centralMontanaandconsistsofruralcommunities, ruggedlandscapesincluding prairieandmountainsand densely populated areas.Theposition issupervised fromtheFWPRegion 5Billingsoffice,theincumbent will be assigned to the Roundup Montana area.

JobDuties(narrativesummary):

Assist with the implementationof regional hunting access programs. This includes coordination with area landownersanddepartmentpersonnel toaddressrecreationalusecomplianceandinformationdissemination for public hunting opportunities.

Implement department huntingaccessprograms andassistlandowners toprovidepublichuntingopportunities. Withregional guidance, assist to develop and implement necessary processes and changes toadapt area use rules and hunter activities during hunting seasons. Work with landowners, partners and department personnel topostonsitearearules andregulations toensurehunter awareness andcompliance. Assistwithsetting upand maintaining publichunting access sites.This may include locating and marking boundaries and access points, establishing parking areas, maintaining information or permission stations.

Collect andmaintainaccess usedataandinformation. Document dailyandseasonal useofhuntingareas.Act asa resource for landowners andthepublic by responding toinquiries, providing information and direction.

Assist inthe resolution ofconflicts which involve hunters and landowners.Aid with the development and dissemination of programmatic materials.Communicate program information to hunters, landowners, and departmentpersonnel.Someposition's locations mayberequested tomanagespecialized permissionsystems, issue permission and provide information pertaining to specialized permission systems.Provide general information to hunters regarding department rules and regulations, access opportunities, and stateand local land management agency rules.

Qualifications:

Applicantsshouldhavebasicknowledge andunderstanding ofMontana'shuntingheritage,huntingprinciples, rules and regulations. Abasic understanding ofranching practices and agricultural communities ispreferred.

Mustbecapableofbuildingnecessaryskillstomaintain partnershipsbetweenhuntingaccess,wildlifehabitat conservation and agricultural values.

Education&Experience:

The knowledge, skills, and abilities of thisposition arenormally attained through combination ofeducation andexperience equivalent toaHighSchool Diploma.Othercombinations ofeducation andexperiencewillbe considered onacase-by-case basis. Preference will begiven to applicants withstrong interpersonal communicationskillsandcollegecoursework inCriminalJustice,WildlifeManagement, Agricultureorclosely related fields or at least 2 years of experiencerelatable to this position.
