Duties

This position serves as the lead botany and vegetation management program manager for Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Plans, implements, and manages a complex and comprehensive botany program with responsibility in the areas of invasive plant management, restoration of disturbed sites, nursery management, and long-term vegetation monitoring. Oversees and coordinates work groups, interns, volunteers, and lower graded technicians. Collects, maintains, and analyzes data using a variety of accepted methodologies. Create management protocols to preserve, protect, and restore natural resources Develops and conducts a scientifically credible program in cooperation with researchers, partners, and work groups. Implements scientific protocols to identify and conduct long term vegetation and habitat monitoring Able to identify to species native plants of the Sonoran Desert and desert southwest Identifies and documents rare and endangered plants Identifies research needs for Organ Pipe Cactus NM and surrounding areas Serves as Park lead on all restoration efforts including the collection of native plant seed, seed storage, seed propagation, re-vegetation and nursery management Identifies and leads the restoration and recovery of areas impacted by International Border Issues Identifies, maps and treats non-native and invasive plants This position will require strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting and carrying heavy objects in hot weather conditions Incumbent will be required to obtain a valid state herbicide applicators license within one-year of onboarding.
