Job Description

The department of Mining and Minerals Engineering (MME) at Virginia Tech seeks applicants for a teaching faculty position at the rank of Instructor to begin in August 2024. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of continuation dependent upon performance and availability of funding. Duties will primarily include the teaching and grading of MME courses from the freshman to senior level. Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to: training and supervising Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Assistants, developing and updating course materials, departmental service, and compiling data for internal and external assessments. The position will include other duties, as assigned, but will not involve a research component. The successful candidate must enjoy interacting with students, have a good classroom presence, and have good managerial and organizational skills. Required Qualifications

M.S. in Mining Engineering or closely related field completed by the time of application.
Evidence of a strong desire to teach students, which must be addressed in the cover letter.
Experience, beyond undergraduate degree, in Mining Engineering or closely related field.
Conviction check required.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Mining Engineering or closely related field completed by the time the position starts.
Prior teaching or instructional experience in a secondary or postsecondary setting.
Demonstrated experience in management or team leadership.
