Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position exists to maintain living and working environments in buildings. The person in this position will use a variety of skills such as masonry, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical to do a variety of tasks including – repair of walls, doors, ceilings or floors; cleaning stopped up sewer lines; and resetting electric breakers. Work involves construction, remodeling, and repair of masonry structures. May assist other trade workers. Identifies and provides quality consumer services.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Maintain Agency Buildings

Tighten or replace hinges. Replace doorknobs and shafts. Replace doors and other wooden structures. Repair locks and install locks. Construct walls – sheetrock walls. Repair window frames. Repair all types of roofs and floors.

New Construction, Repairs and Maintains Masonry Structures or Walls of Agency Buildings

Brick and block repair – tuck pointing. Metal stud framing Repair terrazzo floors. Stucco Plaster and drywall – ceiling and walls. Concrete pavement – sidewalks, etc. Demolition of concrete. Set up of forms.

Prep, Interiors, and Exteriors of Agency Buildings

Prep by sanding and scraping. Fill cracks and/or needed repairs. Report any repairs to be made.

Construct and Maintain Building Fixtures and Furnishings

Construct cabinets. Measure and figure materials. Construct bookcases and similar furniture. Construct partitions. Install and repair suspended ceilings.

Glass Repair

Remove glazing and broken window glass. Measure glass and cut glass. Install glass with glass clips or points and glaze.

Repair and Maintain Buildings

Repair furniture. Repair cabinets and furniture, all types. Work done with standard carpentry tools.

Miscellaneous Duties

Minor plumbing repairs, cleaning drains, cleaning sewer grates, repairing minor leaks. Minor electrical repair, resetting breakers, replacing bulbs. Floor tile and ceiling tile. Hang bulletin and white boards, pictures, clocks, hot files, etc. Subject to call back, standby, irregular hours, and scheduled weekend duty.

Training

Monthly safety training by department. Tool box safety meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

One year of experience in two or more of the building or mechanical building trades. Education may be substituted as determined relevant by the agency.

Valid Kansas Driver’s License with no restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications : A combination of twenty-four months of painting and/or carpenter experience.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements : Ability to pass a KBI background and pre-employment drug test.
