Position Summary

Works under general supervision of the Deputy Administrator – Behavioral Health Services to coordinate recovery services and aid with clients diagnosed with a serious mental illness transitioning from the criminal justice system back into the community.

Pay Grade: 45

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

100% -

1.Two (2) years’ experience working in a mental health environment as a counselor, social worker, or related field; AND

2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or closely related field; OR

3. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.


Duties and Responsibilities

1.Develops relationships with local criminal justice system, community partners, and mental health providers.

2.Partners with community organizations to coordinate services and resources for adults with mental illness who are incarcerated in the local jails.

3.Identifies, screens, and assesses persons with mental illness and facilitate continuity of care while being held in jail and upon release from custody.

4.Develops and coordinates plans for release from jail for adults with a serious mental illness that includes referral and linkage back into the community.

5.Conducts follow-up visits and activities with clients when released from jail to insure successful integration into the community.

6.Works with various related agencies regarding the exchange of information, as required.

7.Performs other related duties as required or directed.

1.Knowledge of the methods and techniques of advocacy, counseling, and their application.

2.Knowledge of local support and treatment agencies to connect clients with mental health concerns.

3.General knowledge of the criminal justice system.

4.Ability to maintain and establish meaningful rapport with clients, partner agencies, and court personnel.

5.Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.


Special Requirements

1. Must be able to work in a secure jail environment.
