Job Description

The Center for Neutrino Physics at Virginia Tech invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position. The Virginia Tech group led by Prof. Mariani and Prof. Vogelaar is involved in the DarkSide experiment at LNGS and in the Global Argon Dark Matter Collaboration. The group is involved in both the detector design, installation, commissioning, and data analysis. In particular, the group is involved in the TPC development, detector control and data analysis.

The successful candidate will work on both the TPC design and assembly, detector control, calibration systems and on data analysis from prototypes and on detector simulations. Work will involve collaborating with leading experimentalists at LNGS and CERN, duties may also include supervising and coordinating the work of other researchers and personnel, especially graduate and undergraduate students, and developing new analysis efforts in the DarkSIDE experiment. The successful candidate will be based in Blacksburg, VA but will be required to spend extended periods of time in LNGS and CERN.

Required Qualifications

The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. in experimental particle or nuclear physics with strong verbal and written communication skills that are reinforced by active listening skills. Experience in low energy and low background experiments would be preferred.

* Advanced knowledge of the principles of physics
* Advanced knowledge of the methods and techniques used in research in experimental physics
* Advanced ability to evaluate and report objectively on research results
* Ability to communicate research results effectively at professional meetings and conferences

PhD in experimental particle or nuclear physics awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.

Preferred Qualifications

* Ability to work under limited supervision
* Experience working in large international scientific collaborations
