Note: The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy.

JOB SUMMARY
This job is located in the Building Management Division of the General Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. However, an eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies, including vacancies in other departments, per provisions of the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. Employees in this classification must possess skills, knowledge and abilities associated with operating, maintaining, inspecting, cleaning, and making adjustments to various types of air handling and heating systems prior to assuming the position. Essential job functions include: inspecting, servicing, maintaining hot water boilers, air conditioning and ventilating systems; completing work orders, safety reports, inspection sheets and other related reports and forms on a daily basis; and maintaining building facilities. Supervision is of a limited nature and the worker must assume responsibility for work performed. The Building Maintenance Mechanic I has frequent contact with City personnel and the public to answer questions about work being performed or to refer individuals to appropriate departmental personnel.
VETERANS PREFERENCE
Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. JOB REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of air conditioning and heating system operation; Building Automation Systems. Skill in safe operation of electrical tools and equipment. Skill in maintaining heating and cooling systems. Willingness to follow established City and departmental policies, procedures, codes, and regulations. Possession of a valid State of Oklahoma Class IV Boiler Operator License. Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator).NOTE: Individuals selected who do not possess a valid State of Oklahoma Class IV Boiler Operator License will be required to possess or obtain the license within six (6) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining a valid State of Oklahoma Class IV Boiler Operator License within six (6) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.

Primarily inside, occasionally outside, exposed to heat, cold, humidity, etc. Exposed to high humidity in the boiler rooms. Exposed to temperature changes of 20 degrees to 30 degrees or more when going from boiler room or chiller to another location. Possibility of injuries such as sprains, fractures, deep cuts, etc. when repairing systems and operating machinery and equipment such as welding torches, grinders, air hammers, table drills, pumps, motors, etc. Occasional work with ladders, scaffolding, platforms, etc., 12 feet or more above floor or ground level. Exposed to steady and fairly loud noises from machinery and equipment such as chillers, air conditioning units, boilers, pumps, motors, etc. Exposed to large amounts of dust when performing tasks such as changing filters, operating grinding machine, cleaning air handling unit parts, etc. Occasional to frequent exposure to chemical irritants such as cleaning solvents, chemicals used to balance the water in air handling and heating machinery, etc. Subject to 24-hour emergency call, including weekends and holidays. Frequent local area travel to make repairs at different buildings and to pick up parts, etc. Possibility of second, third or fourth degree burns from not water boiler(s) (hot water is around 180 degrees). Subject to working on or near steam lines which can cause burns.Note: Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Strength enough to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds such as drums or barrels of chemicals, parts, and pieces of equipment, etc. Flexibility enough to bend, twist, and reach out to perform duties such as maintenance and repair on air handling and heating systems. Balance enough to work from ladders, platforms, catwalks, etc. Extreme arm-hand steadiness, manual dexterity, and finger dexterity enough to perform maintenance and repair tasks on air handling and heating systems. Near vision enough to read various items such as wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, part numbers, etc., and to work on small parts and wires. Visual color discrimination enough to perform tasks such as accurately matching color-coded wires etc. and determining different colors and hues when performing chemical tests of water in the air handling and heating systems. Hearing enough to distinguish location of malfunction in items such as machinery and equipment. Hearing and speech enough to communicate clearly and distinctly via two-way radio or in person.OTHER DETAILS
Note: An eligibility list will be established from this posting consisting of applicants who receive a score of 70 percent or better.
