Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Civil Engineer for immediate employment in Tampa, Florida office.

As a Civil Engineer, you will work closely with the project team, including civil, architecture, geotechnical, traffic engineers, landscape architects, and surveyors to provide value to each project. In this role, you will work under supervision of Project Manager or Senior Civil Engineer, however, you must be able to organize workload and work independently on project-specific design tasks.

This role is a combination of Site Civil Engineer, Utility and CAD Technician for site development in Central Florida and will assist other regions and Business Lines. You will perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings. You will also prepare technical specification sections and provide input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

This position is expected to begin in August 2022

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Computer­-aided design and drafting of site layout, roadway/parking area, grading, stormwater, and utility systems (potable water, wastewater, fire water) using tools including, but not limited to, AutoCAD Civil3D

  • Assist in report preparation, site reconnaissance, and communications with the AECOM project team

  • Review regulations and agency/engineering standards necessary to carry out project design and permitting work

  • Research and analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects

  • Lead the development of scope of work, project schedules, budgets/cost estimates, and project criteria into the site/civil design and layouts for various projects. This will also include reviewing technical drawings and data for various projects

  • Conduct site visits at active construction sites to examine field conditions, site work that is under construction, site utilities, sediment and erosion control inspections, as built conditions

  • May have some responsibility for training and/or knowledge sharing with junior level staff for specific technical design aspects of a site/civil project (i.e. – Civil 3D design tools, stormwater/utility design and calculations, etc.)

  • Exercise judgement limited to developing details of work in making preliminary decisions and material selections, and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Utilize standard techniques, procedures, and criteria while gaining understanding of advanced methods

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Must possess a Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess the EIT/EI Certification (or meet the qualifications to register for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam)

  • Working experience and knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, including: Objects – Styles & Labels; Designing Surfaces (3D Feature Lines & Grading Groups); Working with Pipe Networks (Alignments & Profiles); Corridor Design (Assemblies & Subassemblies); Working with Data Shortcuts; Working with Plan Production Tools

  • Experience working on land development projects with multiple utilities including domestic water supply and distribution, fire water, gravity sanitary sewer, pressure sanitary forcemains, process wastewater, fiber and telecommunications, storm drainage piping and stormwater retention/detention systems design

  • Experience with permitting site/land development projects, including local Water Management Districts (WMD), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP; stormwater and/or utilities), local County/City site permitting, etc

  • Working knowledge of stormwater and utility design programs (ICPR (Interconnected Pond Routing), AutoDesk Storm & Sanitary Analysis, InfraWorks, WaterCAD (or similar), etc.)

  • Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida (current FL PE License), or able to register for the Principles & Practice (PE) Exam within 1 year)

  • Coordination with multiple disciplines including architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, structural engineers, and contractors

  • Local experience is highly preferred
