Schedule: Tuesday – Friday; 5:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Pinellas County has a great opportunity to utilize your multi-trades craftworker expertise at the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport in Clearwater, FL.Our airport is growing, help us maintain it.

This position performs maintenance of Airport grounds that include (but is not limited to) landside, airside, terminal grounds, and other Airport properties owned by Pinellas County and maintained by the Airport. These areas include runways, taxiways and airfield turfs, and paved surfaces focusing on the grounds. To achieve the goal of compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, the ideal candidate will operate tractors and mowers and other heavy equipment and/or additional duties as required.

What Would You Do?

Maintains and repairs runways, taxiways, grounds, runway and taxiway markings, pavement surfaces. Performs joint repairs, clears fence lines, cleans outdoor surfaces, and wildlife management. Provides input to supervisor concerning time, workforce, equipment, and materials necessary to perform airfield maintenance assignments. Maintains grounds: mowing, weed eating, grading, and filling in ruts. Operates equipment such as dump trucks, mowers, diesel-powered tractors with attachments, small tractors, riding mowers, and other powered landscape equipment. Performs bituminous and concrete repair on runways, taxiways, and aprons. Performs joint seal repair including sawing, routing, and installation of hot application joint seal material. Operates power sweepers for cleaning runways, taxiways, and aprons. Operates backpack blowers, power washers, vacuums, and other equipment including the use of all appropriate safety equipment. Installs, assembles, cuts and repairs chain link fence, barbed wire, and sliding gate sections. Installs, repairs, and replaces signage, signpost, and other support structures. Assists in preventive maintenance programs for maintenance equipment and vehicles. Responsible for the upkeep replacement of landscaping as needed on airport property. Perform other job duties as assigned.

What Do You Need To Have?

Experience:skilled craft or trade experience in maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, electrical, plumbing, and painting.

3 years of experience as described above; or Completed a 2-year vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification and at least 1 year of experience as described above; or An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver’s License upon hire with eligibility based upon an evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report. Assignment to work in a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special emergency, and/or disaster situations. Must be willing to work in a shift capacity that may rotate or adjust with little notice including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to meet and maintain Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements authorizing unescorted access entry into Security Identification Display Area (SIDA). Routine attendance at work is required. Perform work under extreme temperatures and during adverse weather conditions. Effectively deal with personal danger; working around light, and heavy machinery and exposure to the noise of a flight line environment.

Highly Desirable

Familiarity with CFR Part , Part , associated Advisory Circulars, and the Airport Certification Manual. Previous airfield experience. Experience communicating clearly using a two-way radio system that includes communication with the Air Traffic Control Tower. Operate assigned vehicles and equipment to include radios on an active airfield environment, in a safe manner. Experience maintaining and troubleshooting an irrigation system (on-site and remotely) Knowledge of principles and techniques of patching asphalt and concrete. Herbicide applicator license: Florida Public Applicator License with Aquatic Weed Control and Right of Way Pest. Physical Requirements: Ability to operate heavy equipment. Lift 50 - pounds and effectively manipulate hand tools. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties which include the following: Walking, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and climbing. Moving and operating tools and equipment. Lifting heavy objects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of the airfield grounds and maintenance program. Knowledge of materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in airfield maintenance, construction, and repair activities. Knowledge of applicable FAA laws, codes, regulations, regarding allowable ground cover heights. Knowledge of Best Management Practices for Landscape Maintenance. Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the management of the work. Ability to identify airfield maintenance needs and report to supervisor for coordinated action. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to legibly and accurately record information in various report forms. Ability to read and interpret sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
