AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Archaeologist to be based in our San Diego, CA office. This position will support out Impact, Assessment & Permitting team within our Environment business line.

This full-time position is expected to begin January 2023.

The Entry-Level Archaeologist is primarily for monitoring and excavation projects in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, though travel throughout California may be required. This is primarily a field position, however desktop work, including preparation of DPR forms, monitoring reports, and report sections will also be required.

Job Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Perform cultural resources monitoring, surveys, testing and data recovery, recordation of archaeological resources, and prepare supporting documentation.

  • Other activities include assisting with lab analysis, setting up and operating GIS equipment, in and maintaining proper field notes.

  • Records field data and provides observation and interpretations of it.

  • Complete specific project tasks including the technical or logistical aspects of delivering specific components of a project’s scope, meeting with team members to gauge progress toward schedule, scope and budget.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology or related field

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years experience or Master’s degree.

  • Completion of a university-based archaeological field school, and relevant experience in related role.

  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Total Station, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, Statistical Analysis (ex., SAS or SPSS).

  • Demonstrated experience writing portions of technical reports.

  • Relevant field experience in the Pacific Northwest.

  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualification Standards for Archeology.

  • MA or MS in Anthropology or related field.

  • Willingness/ability to travel and perform field work as needed.
