Summary
Serves as the Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, responsible for the personnel management and program administration of the Computerize Tomography (CT) Section, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Section, General Radiology (X-Ray) and Ultrasound. This position requires a considerable amount of independent judgment to coordinate program activities that affect clinical, research, teaching, and administrative functions.
Duties
General Description of Assigned Duties: Sets and adjusts short-term and long-terms priorities and prepares schedules for goals on completion of assigned tasks. Assigns work based on priorities and requirements of the assignment and capabilities of employees. Oversees, directs the work performance of subordinates and evaluates work to ensure quality and standard compliance. Performs supervisory duties, which include, but are not limited to, assignment of work, leave approval, developing performance standards, conducts employee performance appraisals, planning, scheduling, and resolving complaints. Oversees program direction, coordination of work, and training on policies and procedures of the Radiology Service and Medical Center. Conduct counseling and recommends disciplinary actions. Participates in employee/labor management relations to resolve problems and complaints at the lowest level. Deals effectively with employees and union representatives in employee-management concerns. Responsible for the timely preparation and submittal of administrative reports as they pertain to assigned subsections and as requested by appropriate authorities. Makes decisions on work problems presented by supervisors, administrators, team leaders, and radiologists, etc. Encourages and promotes the development and professional growth of the technical staff. Oversees their assignments and/or assigned projects are carried out; coaches and/or instructs in the selection and application of appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, and provides advice on work methods, practices, and procedures. Develops formal orientation, training, and evaluation programs. Recommends, coordinates, and evaluates new or modified procedures/protocols. Ensures, maintains, and update the Radiology sub-section's Policy and Procedural Manuals with appropriate information, such as, examination positioning of the patient, acquisition parameters and orientation of images. Ensures that they instruct the technologists on specialized tasks and on new/modified procedures and policies. The incumbent develops and participates in the continual education program of the technical and non-technical staff through departmental in-service, meeting, or programs. Supports Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) for all affirmative actions, provides internal plans and procedures to implement the provisions of agencies/facilities to programs such as EEO, Merit Promotion, and serves on the Radiology section promotion board. Makes recommendations for employee's reassignment, training plans, awards, and disciplinary actions. Determines staffing requirement based on past, present, and future workload patterns. Develops, and organizes the monthly assignment schedule, as well as the stand-by/on-call schedule and the holiday assignment schedule of the technologists and non-technical staff. Approves and monitors leave requests of assigned technical and non technical staff. Identifies, distributes, and balances the patient workload and all other tasks among technologists in accordance with the established workflow, skill level and imaging specialization; and adjusts accomplish the workload in accordance with the established priorities to ensure the timely accomplishment of assigned tasks. Monitors the status and progress of work, and reviews completed work to ensure that the physician's instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines, and quality have been met. Researches, learns, and applies a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods to identify, assess, analyze, and improve the team effectiveness, efficiency, and work. Supervises the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and provides leadership to the team in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made. Participates in the development, monitoring, reporting, and acting on components of the Diagnostic Radiology Quality Assurance Program and ensures that all sub-sections are in full compliance with the regulations and standards directed by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO), OSHA, SOARS, and Inspector General. Ensures the safety of all patients always and ensures that subordinate staff adheres to the Radiology Service's Policy and Procedural Manual and the directives and policies set by the Medical Center, Vision 21, VA Central Office, and Hybrid-Title 38.Work Schedule : Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:00pm, possible Saturday rotation
