University of Virginia's Facilities Management Housing Zone has an exciting opportunity for a Master Mechanic on our Second Shift (Monday to Friday, 4:30 PM to 1:00 AM) who supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable maintenance and service. The Housing Zone provides facilities services to Housing and Residential Life (HRL) properties consisting of 8,000 beds distributed through 187 buildings, encompassing over 3 million square feet of occupied residential space. Our portfolio includes single-family homes, traditional residence halls, and apartments.

The Master Mechanic will be the primary point of contact on the second shift for preventive and emergent maintenance issues within the Zone. This forward-facing role involves extensive interaction with residents, students, and staff, requiring exceptional communication and customer service skills. Success in this position hinges on the incumbent's ability to consistently execute critical thinking and advanced problem-solving to effectively isolate and repair both routine and complex maintenance issues across multiple building and specialty trades.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will be flexible in handling diverse tasks and committed to maintaining a safe work environment. They must be effective both independently and as part of a team, self-motivated to drive continuous improvement, and dedicated to staying current with system upgrades and emerging technical enhancements throughout the University.

Key Responsibilities:
Independently perform installation, repair, and maintenance in multiple building trades, including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, and electrical, according to diagrams and manuals.
Conduct preventative maintenance and emergency repairs for various building systems.
Mentor, instruct, and coach less experienced staff to enhance their technical knowledge and skills.
Utilize CMMS/IWMS to track maintenance activities, schedule preventative maintenance, and manage work orders.
Ensure the use of all safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
Communicate with customers regarding job status, reasons for, and duration of expected delays.
Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal, as assigned by the supervisor.
Stay current with system upgrades and emerging technical enhancements.
Proactively identify and implement improvements to maintenance processes and systems.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver's license with a positive points balance.
A minimum of four (4) years of work experience at the Journey level in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical trades.
Journeyman or higher license in one trade (HVAC, Plumbing, or Electrical) and four (4) years of Journeyman level experience in a second trade.

Preferred Qualifications:
Two (2) Journeyman Level or higher Trade Licenses (HVAC, Plumbing, or Electrical).
Service experience in HVAC and Plumbing.
Experience working in an occupied environments in an academic setting.

Anticipated Compensation: $35 - $38 per hour, commensurate with experience. This position also receives an additional $1 per hour shift differential.
