DATE: September 6, 2023 CLOSING DATE: UNTIL FILLED POSITION: Assistant Solicitor DEPARTMENT: 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to prepare and prosecute criminal cases in any court in which the 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office represents the State of South Carolina. ESSENTIALJOB DUTIES: Prepare criminal cases for trial, hearings, and pleas. Represent the State in criminal cases in Court; i.e. preliminary hearings, motion hearings, pleas, and trials. Do legal research through review of current statutes and case law. Coordinate with other agencies (DSS, DMH, DPPP, Probate Court, etc.) to assure appropriate dispositions and/or placement of offenders. Review case files and discovery. Contact witnesses/victims. Draft legal documents. Conduct plea negotiations. Advise/consult law enforcement on cases. Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of South Carolina codes, laws, regulations, and court rules. Completion of college and law school, and possession of license to practice law in South Carolina. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with law enforcement, other attorneys, and victims of crimes. Adequate legal knowledge to advise law enforcement and make informed decisions on case analysis. Adequate computer skills to utilize case management systems and perform legal research. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The educational requirement for this position is: Completion of Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Related experience required: Experience preferred. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS,OR REGISTRATIONS: Certifications, licenses, professional designations, or other qualifications required for this position include: Member of the SC Bar, in good standing. Rule 403 requirements completed. Course of Study on South Carolina law completed.
