The role: 

Bring your engineering leadership to our team As the roadway standards engineer and unit manager, you will mentor, coach and supervise the Roadway Standards Unit currently comprised of 14 employees. You will also provide technical advice, assistance and recommendations to our roadway management team across the state, district managers and other ODOT offices, local agencies and consultants. A day in the life:

  • Provide leadership, vision and management oversight for the development and review of roadway engineering policies, procedures and practices.

  • Oversee revisions to the Highway Design Manual and other roadway guidance documents.

  • Plan, assign, coordinate and review work of unit employees.

  • Develop and administer the unit’s biennial budget.

  • Set individual and team expectations, evaluate performance, provide coaching and give feedback.

  • Consult and coordinate with the state roadway engineer to identify the most effective use of section resources to carry out the goals of the section and agency.

  • Provide leadership to the regions on roadway design guidance and policy interpretation.

  • Review and make recommendations to the state roadway engineer for the approval or rejection of design exceptions.

  • Represent the section and responsible programs internally and externally.

  • Work in an office environment with occasional outdoor work and travel required – occasional hybrid work options available pending manager approval.

Minimum qualifications:

Six years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience;

OR

Three years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Special qualifications:

A valid Professional Engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering. If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in Oregon within six months of hire.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
