Summary

You will serve as the Division authority for the management, direction, and implementation of the Division pavement management, materials engineering, and maintenance program activities and serves as the technical expert/resource for all aspects of the pavement and materials programs. In addition, you will support and oversee the administration of federal aid program transportation projects and some discretionary grant award projects.

Duties

As a Civil Engineer (Highway) – Pavements and Materials Engineer, you will :

Serve as the Division’s technical resource for pavement management and pavement/materials engineering (including testing methods, quality assurance, quality control programs, specifications, and state‐of‐the‐art practices), and provide technical guidance and assistance on pavement systems, design, construction, and maintenance of pavement structures. Provide assistance and share information on application of data integration strategies to support asset management; advance the use of pavement and bridge management systems, and assist in marketing new systems as developed; and promote economic analysis tools for highway agency to identify and quantify the return‐on‐investment. Represent FHWA in technical and administrative matters at meetings and conferences with State and local transportation officials, elected officials, and other Federal and private interest representatives. Provide advice and guidance on all quality activities to FHWA, MDT, and other partners. Support the state DOT and other transportation stakeholders in implementing the federal aid program and advancing transportation projects.

The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced engineering professional with experience in pavements and materials, asset management, transportation systems performance management, maintenance program and project management activities.
