What is this career opportunity? General Services is seeking an energetic, service-oriented carpenter to join their Facility Maintenance teamThis team is comprised of painters, carpenters, general maintenance staff and a locksmith.You would be part of this team but would also be part of our global Capitol Facilities team that includes HVAC specialists, plumbers, custodians, and landscape technicians. Your responsibilities would include performing carpentry work in state owned buildings on the Capitol Complex and various sites in the Helena area. Responsibilities include new construction and remodeling, repair and maintenance, and other related general duties.

What are we looking for? Education and Experience:

·High school diploma or its equivalent, four consecutive years framing in residential construction or in steel stud framing applications.

·Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis

ØIt would be a plus if you have the ability weld

Competencies:

·Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finish carpentry

·Building and safety code requirements, ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints

·Methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment

·Specific overall knowledge of residential construction and general knowledge of commercial construction practices

·Deliver customer service in a caring professional manner

·Establish and maintain effective working relationships

·Capable of installing wood and metal framework in a workman like manner

·Ability to install flooring, lay-in ceilings, simple cabinetry, Siding, trim carpentry, and other applications as required

·Operate, maintain, and calibrate hand and power carpentry tools

·Recognize and select appropriate lumber types, grades, and related materials

·Estimate cost, time, and materials of carpentry projects

·Communicate effectively, respectfully, and professionally with team members, managers and with all levels of the organization

·Move heavy and cumbersome objects by yourself or with a team member

·Work independently and as part of a team

·Operate all maintenance equipment safely

·Keep maintain an orderly clean, safe project area, shop, and company vehicle

·Identify and resolve problems within areas of responsibility and report all deficiencies to manager

·Support other teams and trades as required by manager or circumstances

·Be a contributing member of our dynamic operations team

·Lead or follow based on projects needs and outcomes

·Recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions
