Senior Scientist Grade 3 – Cell Processing Laboratory

Full Time ongoing role – 80 hours per fortnight with monthly paid day off Great leadership opportunity Located at The Royal Melbourne Hospital City Campus – Parkville

The Royal Melbourne Hospital Cell Processing Laboratory provides laboratory support to the Royal Melbourne Hospital Clinical Haematology & Bone Marrow Transplant Service and the Barwon Health Transplant & Apheresis Service. 

The CPL receives, processes, stores and issues autologous and allogeneic Cellular Therapy Products for the treatment and support of patients with of a range of malignant haematological and non-haematological disorders. This includes Haemopoetic Progenitor Cells, Donor Lymphocytes, Cytotoxic T-Cell Lymphocytes, Granulocytes and Platelet collections.

We are looking for a senior scientist to join our leadership team and support the day-to-day operation and management of the CPL.


Your new role:

Bring your leadership skills to manage a small team and support the efficient operation of the Cell Processing Laboratory. Partner with people leaders to provide contemporary, innovative and accurate best practice advice and support on operational and strategic employee relations matters.

About you:

You demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills. You are an effective communicator and work well in a team environment. You have extensive experience in Autologous/Allogeneic cellular processing and or cell therapies. You hold a Medical Science or equivalent qualification.

As part of the overarching pathology reforms, the pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital will through a change process that is in progress transition to a new separate public pathology entity. The new model for delivering public pathology services will present an exciting opportunity to improve the scope, scale and reach of pathology services and testing capability to all Victorians.

As this role is with Royal Melbourne Hospital the successful candidate for this role will be initially employed by Royal Melbourne Hospital. Once the change process has been completed and the new public pathology entity is fully formed, which is anticipated to be in late 2024, this position and the successful candidate’s employment (including terms and conditions of employment) will transition to the new public pathology entity. Please contact the recruiter if you have any questions on the pathology reforms and transition of this role to the new entity.
