Brief description of the work:
This position supervises Prevention and Protection Services staff in Child Protective Services Unit within the KC Region. This position will manage resources located within Johnson County to maximize the agency’s ability to successfully achieve its mission. This position is responsible for ensuring that agency mandates are achieved and that actions are taken to protect children and to prevent the need to remove them from their home.
Job Duties Description:  
As a Child Protection Supervisor, you will:
Provide protective and preventive services. Prevention is defined as prevention for out of home placement for children. The Protection Supervisor supervise staff who investigate allegations of abuse and neglect, perform risk and safety assessments, develop safety plans, provide information about and referrals to community resources for at risk families, and make appropriate referrals to contracted family preservation and foster care providers. 
 
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: This position works in a cooperative fashion with customers, staff, and agency partners to provide efficient and effective service. At DCF, the customer is placed at the center of planning, policy development, program implementation, and practice with customer outcomes driving decision-making at all levels. By integrating services, we create and maintain a prevention focus as a way of doing business by interacting and engaging with others to proactively foster well-being.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, health sciences or related field as determined relevant by the agency and two (2) years of field experience with a child welfare agency, childcare institution or agency performing human services or health sciences functions. 

Valid Driver’s License (must maintain valid driver’s license throughout employment)

Preferred Qualifications: Licensed Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) professional as determined relevant by the agency. One or more of the following: bachelor’s in social work (Licensed Social Worker) master’s in professional counseling (Licensed Professional Counselor) Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist)

Special knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of ethical standards, principles, and practices of social work, counseling, and human behavior.

Security Clearance: A background check (KBI - criminal background, welfare fraud, driver's license and Child/Adult Abuse and Neglect Central Registry) is required for all positions with the Department for Children and Families (DCF) as a condition of employment, which may include fingerprinting and FBI check. Security clearance must be obtained prior to employment with DCF. Must maintain security clearance throughout employment.
