Housing Counselor / Support Broker - full time position

Are you a person who wants to help others?

We are currently hiring a full time position for a Housing Counselor and Support Broker dual role to work out of our Ashland office. This position will be based out of the Ashland branch office with the majority of time spent in the office, but will be traveling for assessments and scheduled meetings throughout Ashland, Bayfield, Sawyer, and Price counties when needed.

As a Housing Counselor you would be promoting the dignity, independence, self-determination, privacy and choice of each individual served while upholding the standards and promoting the mission of Lori Knapp Cares. You would be assisting individuals to find appropriate, affordable and safe housing for clients. This will also include support in finding programs that assist in the process and expense of housing in the greater area.

You would be responsible to assist with the following but not limited to:
  • Apartment/housing searches
  • Following up with potential Landlords
  • Assisting in obtaining needed support documents for housing
  • Represent the program in dealings with outside agencies
  • Assisting with taking individuals to showings of apartments, preparing for move-in day and more
  • Apply for support programs like Section 8 vouchers, Security Deposit support, Energy assistance, Social Security Income enrollment
  • Develop and maintain good public relations which will include good communication with individuals served, landlords, case managers and family members.
Support Broker Services are support services for individuals who self-direct their supports and need assistance with:
  • Arranging day-to-day services
  • Assisting with recruiting, screening, and interviewing potential SDS employees
  • Conflict resolution between the individual and their employees.
  • Reviewing/Verifying time sheets prior to submission to their Fiscal agency.
  • Various other supports as needed to make sure that the individual's support programs run smoothly
We will train the right individual Caregiving experience is preferred but not mandatory.

This position will also be a support to the Ashland Branch Office Operations:
  • Welcoming guests to the office
  • Answering phones
  • Managing filing system both paper and electronic
  • Assisting management with various tasks as requested
  • Assisting with emergency support to individuals
  • Assist with program and company events throughout the year
