Are you looking to utilize your engineering skills in a dynamic environment.If your answers are “Yes” consider joining the Public Utilities team as an Engineer II in our mission to provide essential public services every day in Virginia’s second largest CityThe Department of Public Utilities is searching for an Engineer II to join a dedicated team of engineers in supporting the review of development projects. A successful Engineer II candidate must be able to make sound engineering decisions based on engineering design standards, and local, state & federal laws; clearly communicate with developers, engineers and contractors to support the execution of private development projects; develop and maintain professional relationships with the public and various City departments.
As an Engineer II, your typical duties would include:Review of construction plans and calculations associated with water and sanitary sewer systemsPreparation of technical review letters to developers, engineers and the communityProviding technical assistance to the construction inspectors on Public Utilities related engineering issuesPerformance of other duties as assigned in support of the Department

The CITY that truly CARES for its residents Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license desired.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
