The Division of Adult Institutions is filling a Teacher - Adult Basic Education/English as a Second Language position, located at Green Bay Correctional Institution in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Education Director, this position provides individualized instruction to students with a primary language other than English and/or students needing Developmental Basic English skills. Subject areas include reading development, English, language use, and written and verbal communication.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 13-04 with a starting pay of $29.13/hour. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

This position is not eligible for remote work.

Qualifications

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Adult Basic Education (ABE) credentials must meet criteria determined by Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) for a teacher #850 Adult Basic Education. Applicants must possess the credentials (listed below) that would find them eligible.

Applicants must meet one of the three areas listed below in order to move forward in the selection process:

1) BA/BS or higher with at least a minor (or 20 semester credits) in any of the areas listed: Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Adult Education or Special Needs Education*

-or-

2) BA/BS or higher (with 20 semester credits) in any one of the “CORE” subject/areas (Reading/ Language Arts; English; Math; Science; Social Studies; History; and or Geography) taught at Elementary Education or Secondary Education levels.*

-or-

3) Department of Public Instruction (DPI) License in Elementary or Secondary Education or Special Needs.*

* Note: This does not include Health, Art, or Music for any of the above 3 areas.

AND

Applicants will meet criterial determined by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) for English as a Second Language (ESL ) #861 credentials (listed below).

1) Applicants must meet one of the five areas listed below in order to move forward in the selection process:

20 semester credits in one the following: English as a Second Language (ESL)*, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL), Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), or Teacher of English Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

* Only Exception: Any combination of English as a Second Language (ESL) and the above other 4

areas may apply for the 20 credits of English as a Second Language (ESL).

2) Candidate must have a Wisconsin DPI license in English as Second Language.
