The Certified Recreational/Activity Therapist functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in age from preschool through adolescences depending on which unit worked. Recreational/Activity Therapist work under the direction of the Program Directors.
Qualifications
Education: Degree from an accredited college or university in recreational therapy, or like degree.
Experience: Completion of fieldwork as part of degree requirements. Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness and group work. Previous work experience as a recreational/activity therapist in a psychiatric hospital is preferred.
Licensure: Recreational therapy certification is recommended.
Additional Requirements: CPR Certification and successful completion of Crisis Intervention Training (CPI) including appropriate use of Seclusion and Restraint immediately following employment and prior to performing patient care. Required to work flexible hours and shifts, such as weekends and afternoon shift hours.
