Automotive Technician II (Ontario)
The Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) seeks to employ career-oriented candidates and offers employment opportunities in a wide variety of challenging occupations. The Job
Your job will be to lead teams of skilled and unskilled Adults in Custody in the maintenance, repair, and care of vehicles and equipment used at the Snake River Correctional Facility in Ontario, Oregon. The work is done in a secure environment and requires attention to detail, supervision, and direction of your team. Your comprehensive mechanical knowledge will be used to plan and complete repairs, forecast costs and make recommendations, and inform purchases of vehicles and equipment.
The person for this job knows best practices for automotive care and maintenance, has experience supervising and directing work, and is passionate about teaching and mentoring teams to facilitate the work.
What We Are Looking For
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of automotive and/or heavy equipment repair experience; OR
A combination of relevant experience and automotive vocational/technical training sufficient for successful performance in the job.
The following certifications are desired qualifications. Not having these certifications will not eliminate you from consideration.
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician certifications in Automobile/Light Truck and/or Medium-Heavy Truck.
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and/or Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Certifications in High Energy Vehicles (HEV)/ Hybrid/Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV).
Requested Skills in
- Preventative maintenance on vehicles, tools, and work areas
- Routine service on vehicles
- Tracking tool log and inventory
- Documentation and communication with the Department of Administrative Services Fleet Management Team
- Supervision and direction of work

Working Conditions
Working in a minimum and medium custody adult correctional facility including daily contact with adults in custody (AIC). Working with equipment, cleaning solutions, and tools. You will be trained to monitor and track tool inventory, maintain security, and conduct pat downs of AIC on tour team.
Requirements for Employment
You must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following convictions are likely to result in being disqualified for this position: felony convictions, computer theft, identify theft and fraud. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range. The State of Oregon provides a generous benefit package, which includes family health and dental insurance, optional short and long-term disability and term life insurance – all of which can be tailored to individual needs. Also provided are fully paid retirement program, modest life insurance policy, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
