Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for an Environmental Specialist to be based out of Harvey, Illinois. Reporting to the Site EHS Manager, this person will be responsible to review, evaluate, implement, and maintain federal, state, and local environmental regulatory requirements as they apply to the manufacturing operations.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor‘s degree in civil, chemical, environmental, or geological engineering with a minimum of 3 years‘ experience. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you‘ll do:

  • Maintain environmental records, perform inspections, and prepare regulatory reports to maintain compliance with air, waste, and water permits.
  • Develop and conduct EHS training for all new and existing associates at the Harvey facility.
  • Provide EHS support for all areas of the Harvey location. This includes, but is not limited to, environmental inspections, EHS program audits, incident investigations, training, etc.
  • Routing essential functions include risk assessments, JSA development, new hire orientation, program development, and day to day administrative needs.
  • Work closely with leadership to ensure all process activities meet regulatory requirements.

What you‘ll bring:

  • Bachelor‘s degree in civil, chemical, environmental, or geological engineering.
  • 3 years‘ minimum experience in environmental manufacturing operations.
  • Exposure to Lean Principles or Six Sigma preferred.
  • Must be a driver of EHS requirements and coordinate the design, build and implementation of quality and safety solutions.
  • Must have strong analytical skills to determine root cause analysis and resolve operational failures and set corrective action/course.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Teamwork and project management skills, self-driven and accountable.

Within 3 months, you‘ll:

  • Complete your Atkore Immersion Program
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore‘s Business System through Lean Daily Management and the Strategy Deployment Process.
  • Gain an understanding of your team and procedures your team uses.

Within 6 months, you‘ll:

  • Audit and update training materials, as necessary.
  • Understand the facility environmental wide permits.
  • Partner with the manufacturing and distribution teams to understand facility process, while supporting, investigating, and providing corrective actions.

Within 12 months, you‘ll:

  • Creating and updating reports, training materials, and documentation necessary for EHS compliance.
  • Manage all site level environmental permits necessary to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Have the ability to resolve issues quickly, providing counter measures.
