Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Leads, evaluates and assigns staff; resolves employee concerns and issues; opens and closes facility; supervises cleanliness of building; ensures sufficient coverage for programs and events; provides exceptional service to community through youth and adult programs; and meets ever-changing needs and physical, social and emotional interests of individuals through innovative programs.

Prepares and submits reports; develops and oversees yearly budget; authorizes all fees and revenue transactions; conducts interviews; completes hiring and transfer of staff; organizes and schedules programs; submits training reports; establishes priorities for completion of work; plans and organizes surveys; and implements and evaluates employee programs.

Monitors, regulates, and records pool chemical levels; monitors and regulates temperature of pool water; vacuums and skims pool; cleans deck areas, restrooms, locker rooms, walkways, and pool furniture; stocks paper goods; and maintains related documentation.

Prepares lesson plans; registers program participants; teaches and demonstrates a variety of skills, such as floating, kicking, stroke techniques and water safety; tests participants; makes recommendations for future classes and skills development; and monitors safety of participants during classes.

Ensures lifeguard staff are properly trained to perform any water rescue techniques or First Aid or CPR if necessary; and ensures proper skills are being taught at the appropriate level and instructors are conducting classes in a manner appropriate for the age and skill level of participants.

Provides information and answers questions regarding pool policies, procedures, programs, fees, etc.; responds to questions and complaints; and initiates problem resolution.

Ensures adherence to established safety procedures; and monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and others.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in recreation, sports management, or related field; two years of experience in lifeguarding and aquatics instruction; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Certified Lifeguard; Water Safety Instructor certification and Lifeguard Instructor certification within 6 months of hire
