VIDRL Clinical Microbiologist

VIDRL Clinical Microbiologist – 6 month role, part-time Virology Reference Laboratory at World Class Diagnostic, Reference & Research Institute Global and Public Health, Reference Laboratory

The Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL) is a leading Australian Infectious Diseases reference laboratory within the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity; a joint venture between Royal Melbourne Hospital and the University of Melbourne. VIDRL provides the Victorian Department of Health with virology, bacteriology, mycobacteriology, and mycology reference laboratory services, and has national reference laboratory designations for the Commonwealth Department of Health and international health programmes through WHO, including several WHO Regional Reference Laboratory designations, and several WHO Collaborating Centres.

Your new role:

support VIDRL in providing high quality clinical supervision of diagnostic and reference laboratories Work closely with VIDRL management team in ensuring the provision of high-quality, innovative laboratory services Contribute to the Department of Health infectious diseases outbreak investigations Actively contribute to a program of high-quality translational research relevant to public health

About you:

This role is suitable for early-mid career FRCPA fellows who are interested in developing a career in a public health reference laboratory.

Formal Qualifications

Fellow Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) with Scope of Practice in Microbiology +/- Fellow Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Infectious Diseases

Essential

Registration as a specialist in Microbiology (AHPRA) with evidence of a current and productive CPD portfolio Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team Strong organisation skills with the ability to change priorities accordingly Well-developed and professional communication, negotiation and presentation skills Proven track record in the pursuit of clinical excellence

Desirable:

Demonstrate research interest and capability relevant to career stage in the field of microbiology Demonstrate interest in public health microbiology
