Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Painter 2 for the Facilities Maintenance Services Department. This position functions as the lead worker for lower level Painters, Craft Workers in Training (CWIT), and student workers; and oversees the campus signage program.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Provide training and technical assistance on new and existing painting equipment, techniques, expectations, safety, and processes;
- Assign and review work;
- Provide input on performance evaluations;
- Assist supervisor in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures;
- Coordinate design, install and/or coordinate the installation of interior and exterior campus signage; this includes entry signage, pedestrian wayfinding signage, campus vehicular wayfinding signage, and memorial and donor recognition monuments and plaques;
- Patch paint in sign locations and refurbish current campus signage;
- Manage campus signage project budget;
- Update campus design standards;
- Provide design, specifications, cost estimates, and bid documents for all signage projects;
- Interior, exterior, street and athletic field painting and preparation; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- This position requires completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program followed by one (1) year of journey level experience; OR
- One (1) year of experience as a Painter I in Nevada State service; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above
A valid Class "C" driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates that are proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Word and Excel are encouraged to apply.
Physical Demands
This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree; exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
This position requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate through speech.
This job requires working with and around hazardous building materials containing asbestos and solvents; biohazards; frequent lifting up to 60 pounds; climbing, moving heavy objects, and preparing work and painting in awkward, confined, restricted or high locations; and exposure to hot and cold temperatures when working outside. This job requires the use of ladders and aerial lift equipment to access higher locations.
Schedule
The typical work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
This position is part of the Facilities Services Weather Essential Personnel and may be required to report to work for their regularly scheduled shift without any phone/cell phone notification; and is subject to a variable workweek schedule.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Compensation Grade
Grade 31
In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
