Position Overview:

Freddie Mac's Public Relations team is responsible for protecting Freddie Mac's corporate reputation and advancing its business interests by helping stakeholders understand company and its dedication to its mission of liquidity, stability and affordability in the housing market. We are seeking a seasoned media relations professional to be the lead PR account manager to support the Multifamily (apartment rental) housing line of business. This key role will serve as the primary liaison from Corporate Communications to the Multifamily business line, building understanding and trust with the internal client, their priorities and business goals. The person will operate as a key relationship manager and media relations lead in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This person will serve as the spokesperson with national and housing trade press on issues related to apartment financing policies, affordable lending initiatives, Freddie Mac's innovative programs, thought leadership and other key issues. Your Impact:

  • Develop Corporate Communications plans, activities and services in support of the Multifamily line of business
  • Build relationships with the Multifamily executives and marketing team.
  • Coordinate and deliver to Multifamily leadership integrated communications plans from across Corporate Communications
  • Engage in issues management, executive counsel, proactive and reactive media management, crisis response, etc., related to the Multifamily line of business
  • Set PR strategies and plans, and deliver on them, in coordination with other Corporate Communications and Multifamily marketing communications staff
  • Research, develop and pitch story ideas and angles to general business and industry outlets
  • Collaborate across key company subject matter experts to access content and perspectives
  • Develop messages tailored to promoting business initiatives with various target audiences
  • Draft press releases, Q&A, talking points, key message documents and conduct internal/external briefings as necessary
  • Manage media interviews, including interviewee preparation and follow-ups

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of experience
  • 12+ years related experience with media relations or communications
  • Experience working with reporters on projects large and small is critical
  • Experience leading a team or an account in a matrix environment
  • Experience in Financial Services a strong plus, preferably capital markets, mortgage banking or commercial real estate. Capitol Hill experience also desired
  • Strong relationship development/account management experience is a plus
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well with other team members and business partners
