Job Title: Asphalt Estimator
Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Asphalt Estimator to join our team. The Asphalt Estimator will be responsible for accurately estimating costs and preparing bids for asphalt paving projects. The ideal candidate will be proficient in conducting take-offs and estimates for various scopes of work related to asphalt paving.
Responsibilities:
- Review project plans, specifications, and other documents to understand the scope of work and project requirements.
- Conduct quantity take-offs for asphalt paving materials, including asphalt mix, base materials, and other related items.
- Utilize estimating software and tools to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for asphalt paving projects.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information and pricing for bids and proposals.
- Prepare bid packages, including detailed breakdowns of labor, materials, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitiveness and accuracy of bids.
- Present estimates and proposals to clients, providing explanations and justifications as needed.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Track and monitor project costs throughout the duration of the project, identifying and addressing any variances or changes.
- Assist in the development of project budgets and schedules based on estimated costs and timelines.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in asphalt estimating or related field.
- Strong understanding of asphalt paving techniques, materials, and equipment.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Bluebeam, Planswift, or similar programs.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail to accurately assess project requirements and costs.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills to interact with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to asphalt paving.
- Experience with value engineering and cost-saving strategies is a plus.
