Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Greenhouse Senior Grower to join our Floriculture Production team, producing over 1000 unique florist-quality crops, in 4.5 acres of greenhouses and container fields, used to create Longwood's world-renown seasonal displays.

This is a unique hands-on position working directly with plants from around the world, requiring attention to detail, leadership and skilled horticultural expertise.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading all aspects of crop production including receiving, transplanting, potting, repotting, staking, tying, grooming, watering, nutrient management and pest management in assigned greenhouse zones.
  • Applying horticultural expertise to new and existing crops to elevate our displays.
  • Leading all aspects of plant health management in assigned area.
  • Documenting management and culture notes in our production database system to inform future crop planning and performance.
  • Setting and monitoring environmental control parameters in assigned greenhouse zones.
  • Receiving, delivering, and recording quality of finished plant material.
  • Working with other areas of Horticulture, enabling them to become well versed in all aspects of Longwood's high standards for producing beautiful display plants.
  • Applying innovative and sustainable approaches to horticulture production techniques and plants.
  • Evaluating and testing new plants and techniques.
  • Supervising parttime employees and mentoring students, and volunteers to achieve successful seasonal display crops through proper horticultural practice and technique.
Periodic weekend, holiday, and evening duty is required.


We are looking for a team player with a minimum of 5 years of relevant working and educational experience in a greenhouse production setting or correlative educational background in Horticulture or a related field.


Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problemsolving skills
  • A mindset of continuous improvement and learning
  • Demonstrated experience working proactively to meet deadlines
  • Experience working as part of a team as well and independently
  • Keen observational skills applied to growing plants with close attention to detail
  • A valid driver's license
  • Willingness to obtain a Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator's license within six months of hire date
  • Willingness to obtain a forklift operator's training certificate
