Position Details:

One regular, full-time position, 40 hours per week, 11 months per year (August - June) on the Oceanside Campus.

The normal work schedule will be Monday & Wednesday, 12:30 pm - 9:00 pm, Tuesday & Thursday, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm, and Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm; evenings and some weekends are required according to department need.

The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation.


This is an "extended-day" position, subject to possible fluctuations in daily working hours, and may be exempt from compensation for overtime in excess of eight (8) hours in one day.

Hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours in a week period shall be compensated on an overtime basis.

The first-level interviews with the screening and interview committee will be conducted via Zoom. The second-level interviews may be in-person or via Zoom.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:

MiraCosta College Board Policy 7800:

Employee Residency requires all classified staff, administrators, and temporary/hourly short-term employees to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two-hundred (200) road miles from the employee's regularly assigned district worksite.

The purpose of the policy is to promote efficiency and continuity throughout all campus administrative functions, provide students with high quality assistance and accessibility to all academic and campus services, ensure that students receive an engaging education, and respond to emerging student needs.


The District may consider an individual request to temporarily reside outside of the State of California or outside the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed twelve consecutive months.

$109,928 or $114,569 (step 1 or 2)"Annual Compensation" is based on salary range 21, step 1 or 2 on the classified salary schedule. Initial step placement will be determined based on directly related experience, with annual salary step increases up to step 5. In addition, after five years of district service, employees earn a longevity stipend that increases over time."Total Annual Compensation" includes annual salary, the districts average annual health and welfare benefit cost, and the districts retirement contributions (CalPERS).Employees must make arrangements for the direct deposit of paychecks into the financial institution of their choice, via electronic fund transfer.

Basic Function:


Under general supervision, provide technical support for faculty and students performing in concert, studio, and classroom; coordinate the technical needs required of Performing Arts including studio design and build, training of student interns and student workers in studio, and concert support; provide support in all performance venues on and off campus including sound reinforcement, concert recordings, stage setup and lighting when appropriate; oversee the music departments technical/equipment needs including procurement, inventory, utilization, security, and repair of all music-related equipment; and perform related duties as assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Establish and monitor studio lab schedules; establish, modify and enforce lab procedures and policies; assist instructors, staff and students in the use of a variety of equipment, materials and supplies in an instructional laboratory setting, including audio recording equipment, sound reinforcement equipment, lighting and computer hardware and software; monitor and assist students with recording projects; troubleshoot equipment issues in studios.
  • Plan and coordinate audio equipment upgrades and replacement projects; participate in the planning, design and construction of department instructional facilities involving music and recording studios; maintain audio equipment.
  • Explain and demonstrate learning exercises and instructional materials to aid in student comprehension of course work; present information to students in a logical, accurate and interesting manner; demonstrate safety procedures in class situations; ensure security of lab materials, equipment, machinery, computers and related software and peripherals.
  • Order, receive, catalog and store supplies, materials and equipment; direct and participate in inventory of lab equipment and materials, ensuring adequate quantities are available for instructional use; design and maintain department equipment inventory database.
  • Maintain learning environment in a safe, clean and orderly condition; unlock practice rooms and labs; set up rooms to accommodate different classes and ensembles; make minor repairs and adjustments to learning equipment; perform complex technical repairs and create specialized cables as needed.
  • Advise continuing and prospective students in selection and possible sequence of course selection for music classes and serve as a source of equipment knowledge for students; provide information on available resources to students; encourage student participation and advise students regarding available learning materials.
Other Duties:

  • Support other campus events in the Concert Hall that are hosted by other departments, as well as events held by community groups renting the facilities; provide expert sound reinforcement when needed; may accompany performance groups on travel/tours.
  • Assist in developing department budgets; coordinate purchases and other expenditures; maintain records and prepare related reports.

Education & Experience:

To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:


An associate degree in the assigned subject discipline or a related field and three years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.



NOTE:

For work experience, one "year" is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 12 months, or at least 2,080 hours.



Desirable Qualifications:


Experience operating industry-standard recording studio software (e.g., Pro Tools) and equipment used in recording studios and in live sound reinforcement.
