Spanish Teacher - Full Time

Start Date – August 2024 (With One Mandatory Meeting In Late July 2024)

Marian High School, a faith-filled secondary school of the Diocese of Fort Wayne South Bend, is seeking applicants for a potential opening in our World Languages Department. Specifically, we are seeking a qualified teacher of Spanish.

A normal full-time teaching position includes responsibility for five (5) class presentations and one supervisory period each day. Full-time teachers who are not assigned a sixth class or supervisory period are required to be available for substitution each day as needed. Those teachers should check their mailbox by 7:45 a.m. each day to receive any substitution assignments.

A major series of salary increases ($12,000 over the past three years with a plan to increase by $2,000 per year over the coming two years) provides opportunities for teachers to begin or continue their teaching careers at Marian with salaries that are competitive with public school districts in the State of Indiana,

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Is present in the building (minimally) from 7:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. on regular school days and at least fifteen (15) minutes before and after (45) minutes after school on days with a special schedule.
  • Prepares an outline of the course (s) being taught, the materials used, the assignments expected of the students and distributes a copy of this information to the class(es), Department Chairperson, and is available to the Principal if requested.
  • Prepares several emergency lesson plans, tests or specific work assignments which can be used by a substitute teacher, if necessary. These plans and resources should be easily accessible in the teacher's classroom.
  • Prepares accurate seating charts for each class, leaving a current copy in the teacher's desk in case of an emergency substitute teacher.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records (both absences and tardies) for all assigned students and follows given procedures.
  • Assists in student supervision as assigned.
  • Notifies the Principal, Assistant Principal, Administrative Secretary or Attendance Secretary when leaving the building or school campus during the day.
  • Provides adequate supervision of students in the classroom, during school assemblies or at extra-curricular activities.
  • Attends all faculty and departmental meetings, orientation sessions, parent-teacher conferences, workshops, in-service days, open-house activities, and school assemblies, including baccalaureate and commencement.
  • Safeguards the security of the school building and facilities by properly maintaining assigned keys and not allowing students to use keys under any circumstances.
  • Reports any injuries sustained by students while under the teacher's supervision to the School Nurse and completes the Accident/Injury form, no matter how insignificant the injury may seem to the teacher or student involved.
  • Reports any damage to school property to the Principal or the Assistant Principal.
  • Maintains security of the building by locking doors of unused rooms and checking outside entrances when leaving the building after extra-curricular activities.
  • Proctors standardized tests as assigned by the School Counseling Department.
  • Observes all normal procedures for field trips, guest speakers, school visitors, etc.
  • Observes stated procedures for teacher absences.
  • Fulfills all obligations as outlined in the Contract and Faculty Staff Handbook Agreement.
  • Knows and observes the policies and procedures outlined in the Student Handbook and Faculty Handbook.
  • Fulfills any co-curricular assignments.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Principal. Applicants should have or be eligible for an Indiana teaching license.

    Salaries are based on degrees and experience. The ability to be certified in the State of Indiana is required, as is the ability to successfully complete the Diocesan background and safe environment checks.
