Vernon has the only open heart surgery program in the region, serves as the regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for nine counties in Southern Illinois, and recently launched a new pediatric emergency and NICU telemedicine program in conjunction with the physicians at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
